3. Wrong Answers Must Be the Exact Mistakes Your Students Actually Make

Bad wrong answers: “A type of elephant”, “Breakfast cereal”
→ Kids laugh, eliminate, guess, forget.

Good wrong answers: the #1, #2, and #3 most common misconceptions.

Example: “ephemeral”
Wrong choices:

  • Permanent
  • Eternal
  • Spiritual

When they pick “permanent” and get corrected, the sting + immediate feedback = permanent retention.

4. Images Only When They Do One of These Three Things

99% of Gimkit images are useless distractions.

Use images ONLY if they:

  1. Are required for the question (graph, diagram, labeled picture)
  2. Are the question itself (identify symbolism, spot the error)
  3. Are legitimately hilarious and memorable

No other review activity comes close.

10. Never Play Longer Than 35 Minutes (End While They’re Begging)

Peak energy: minutes 16–24
Death begins: minute 36

Stop at 32–34 minutes max.
“Aww man, already?!” = perfect game
“Finally…” = you went too long

11. Mobile-First Rule: No Question Text Longer Than 140 Characters

If they have to scroll on a phone, you’ve already lost half the class.

12. Ban “All of the Above” and “None of the Above” Forever

They train guessing, not thinking.

13. Never Start Until 100% of the Class Is In

First question missed = psychological defeat for late joiners.

Wait the extra 45 seconds. Worth it every time.

14. The 8-Minute Reteach Cycle (The Retention Nuclear Weapon)

After every game:

  1. Open Reports → Questions → sort by Most Missed
  2. Next day: project the top 3 missed questions
  3. Spend exactly 8 minutes reteaching them
  4. Play again Friday
